Gas turbine start-up at Yakutsk GRES-2

23.05.2017

The start-up (first firing) of the first of the four gas turbines was performed at Yakutsk GRES-2. 48 MW gas turbines are part of the power units, which also include the supplied compressor station and turbine generator. The turbine start-up was preceded by gas feed to the gas compressor station, which was designed, supplied, and set up by Globaltechexport Ltd.

LM6000 gas turbine units were manufactured specifically for Yakutsk GRES-2 by General Electric. They are dual fuel units capable of running on natural gas and diesel fuel, which provide the plant with an additional safety factor. The gas turbines installed at the power plant feature fast loading and "modular" plant maintenance capability to enable thermal power plant operation while one of its turbines is serviced. The turbines are distinguished by their high availability proven by more than 31 million operating hours.

At present, installation operations at Yakutsk GRES-2 have been completed and commissioning of the main and auxiliary equipment is in progress. The 110 kV overhead line between Yakutsk GRES-2 and Khatyn-Yuryakh has been tested at the operating voltage. The operations involve 682 persons and 28 pieces of equipment. The plant commissioning is scheduled for autumn 2017.

Yakutsk GRES-2 (Phase One) is one of the four projects under the investment program of RusHydro for the construction of new power facilities in the Far East implemented pursuant to the Decree of the Russian Federation President. The electric capacity of Phase One will be 193 MW, and the thermal capacity will be 469 Gcal/h (with the hot water peaking boiler plant). The new plant will replace the retired capacities of the existing Yakutsk GRES, create reserve capacity and improve the security of energy supply to consumers.
